Bill C-13 will undermine our privacy

I feel a sense of duty to comment on Peter MacKay's Online Spying Bill C-13.

The Bill gives telecom providers a legal immunity for handing over our private information to the government without a warrant or oversight. Victims of these breaches would not even be informed - that means the government could spy on anyone, at anytime, and you wouldn’t even know when you’ve been a victim.

C-13 is hugely unpopular: 73% of Canadians oppose Bill C-13, with just 15% approving. There is huge opposition among all regions, age groups, genders, and income levels. Conservatives oppose Bill C-13 by 62% to 24%.

The government is misleading Canadians when it says Bill C-13 is about cyberbullying. It only includes a couple of pages about cyberbullying, along with 65 pages lifted from Vic Toews’ hugely unpopular spying bill C-13 which was abandoned after Canadians spoke out.

The Bill was rammed through the House of Commons and will soon be voted on by the Senate. The Senate prides itself on being a chamber of sober second thought, and if ever a Bill needed a sober rethink it’s this one. It would be reckless and irresponsible for Parliament to pass C-13 in its current form, especially as it could cost Canadian taxpayers millions to defend in the courts.

Privacy is a fundamental right in any healthy democracy. By spying on us and collecting our private information in giant databases, the government is doing huge damage to Canadian democracy.

Get involved. Fight at .

Lest we forget

November 11th - Every year on this date the country comes together to remember those who have served to protect this nation.

Amid the daily partisan battles that many of us are involved with, it is refreshing to see leaders from all spots on the spectrum take a pause and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Here is Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau's statement from today:

It's E-Time in #Ontario

As the news is buzzing about, Andrew Horwath and the NDP's are voting against the provincial budget, forcing us into an election which is tabled for June 12th, 2014.

I am a Liberal, and a proud one. Though my work has historically only encompassed efforts within the Federal party (#TeamTrudeau) -  I have answered the call to help in Ontario.

Political volunteer work is both rewarding and challenging. I urge anyone interested in helping the Ontario Liberal's to sign up to volunteer Here.
